Porcelain Paving & Retaining Wall
This client called Cambridge Landscaping to completely re-landscape their small Cambridge garden. They had a good idea of what they wanted for their new garden, but we had a design consultation in which several new ideas were discussed, such as a large retaining wall along one side.
We began by breaking out the existing unsightly, concrete floor and removing all the waste from site. The entire garden was levelled and the ground was prepped with a full mortar bed, ready to take the grey anthracite porcelain slabs. The clean, contemporary slabs were pointed with outdoor ‘flexi’ tile grout. More anthracite porcelain slabs were laid on risers on the property’s first-floor balcony.
Cambridge Landscaping built a large retaining wall from timber sleepers and RSJ steel supports and filled the area behind the wall with earth taken up when the garden was originally levelled. This retaining wall was painted a dark charcoal colour to the client’s specifications. The wall was topped with Caledonian pebbles and filled with plants.
Contemporary Cedar screening was installed over the existing fencing at the back of the garden and modern ‘up/down’ lights were installed along both the screening and the retaining wall. A gravel border ran around the perimeter of the porcelain paving with various low-maintenance plants installed.
