Gravel Garden, Yorkstone Paving & Resin Bound Gravel

Cambridge Landscapes were called to this client’s house in property in Ely. There was a patio at the back door that she wanted to keep, but asked us to completely change the rear section of the garden from grass to gravel as she was elderly and struggled to maintain her lawn. She also wanted several large raised beds so she didn’t have to crouch when tending to her plants.

We began by taking up the lawn, levelling the area and laying a geo-textile membrane to suppress further weed growth. Before laying the gravel, we built two, large raised beds out of blockwork and rendered them before filling them with high-quality nutrient-rich topsoil.

A large Yorkstone circle kit was paved in the centre of the section to be gravelled, with two Yorkstone stepping stone paths running off the circular paved section in different directions to the house and down to a shed at the bottom of the garden.

An ornamental coloured rockery was laid in the middle of one of the gravelled sections that a stepping stone path curved around.

A selection of low-maintenance plants was chosen by the client and installed into the ground before a warm, inviting golden gravel was laid on top of the entire area.

In the front garden, the process was repeated and gravel was laid on either side of a fresh resin bound gravel driveway. The resin bound gravel was bordered with charcoal block paving and another Yorkstone stepping stone pathway was laid in the front garden.
